Performance optimisation

Having worked in the technical SEO team at trivago for years we know at which angles to optimise in order to increase your search engine ranking. Technical SEO refers to the part where you optimise the technical aspects of your websites to improve your search engine rankings.

This includes making your website faster, making your website more accessible by Google and reducing any errors that could lead to inefficient crawling of your website. In this case we mostly focused on the performance aspect, with the goal to optimise the mobile page experience, specifically the core web vitals score.

This is essential for websites as Google’s crawler is generally mobile first now. If your website is slow your rankings might be negatively impacted. Not only Google, your users will also not be happy and bounce a lot faster. Performance is a key business metric in the modern web.

what we built

Deep dive on technical performance

Analyse the performance of the website

We analysed the performance of the website in detail. Google’s Core Web Vitals was the first indicator that we used to broaden our horizon.

Caching of the results

We found that some of the results were not properly cached and thus the browser had to do requests that could be avoided

Load order analysis

We analysed the load order of all the assets of the website to find areas of improvement. Sometimes a blocking Javascript can cause your page to render later. This means your user has to wait unnecessarily before being able to use the page.

Investigate expensive Javascript

Sometimes you have expensive javascript modules that cause your website to be slow. There can be alternatives with similar functionality that load faster. Furthermore it might be that you embedded the modules inefficiently and thus load dependencies that are not needed. By conducting a thorough analysis we were able to find optimisable assets.

Technological roadmap

Based on the findings we were able to highlight technological boundaries with the current tech stack and recommendations on how to overcome them. What made it especially relevant is, that all recommendations were based on real user data.

Dyve provided valuable insights to improve the user experience (loading, interactivity and visual stability) of our landing pages.
